The Lectors Group is responsible
for recruitment and training of suitable members of the congregation to
carry out readings at various events within the Parish, and primarily, at
Mass. |
| Role
 |
Welcome to the Ministry of Lectors. Exciting isn't
it that God has allowed us to proclaim his Holy Word - not just any word but
the inspired Word of God. As St. Paul says to the Thessalonians (1 Thes 2:
13) ' in receiving the word of God from hearing us, you received not a human
word, but, as it truly is, the Word of God'.
In 1972 Pope Paul VI restored the role of lector to the official status of a
ministry. The words of the Holy Father are worth pondering: ' Let the reader
be aware of the office he has undertaken and make every effort and employ
suitable means to acquire that increasingly warm and living love and
knowledge of Scripture that will make him a more perfect disciple of the
Lord.'
The Ministry of Lectors calls for a person to enter a relationship with the
Word that is creative, powerful, and effective. Undoubtedly God's word has
its own power and can do what God has sent it to do. But God chose to work
through human instruments, so this call is not something to be taken for
granted. |
